Duchy Road Garden – A Contemporary Outdoor Retreat

Completed in June 2025, the Duchy Road Garden is a stunning, modern outdoor space designed to complement a newly renovated home with a clean rendered finish. This comprehensive transformation includes both front and rear gardens, combining bold landscaping with soft, elegant planting to create a timeless, usable sanctuary.

Rear Garden

The rear garden is the heart of the project, built around a spacious stone terrace that flows seamlessly into a sunken seating area. The space is structured with raised beds and ambient lighting, creating both visual drama and functional zones. A row of pleached trees along the boundary introduces height and privacy, while mixed planting—lavender, ornamental grasses, Astrantia, and clipped evergreens—adds softness, scent, and seasonal colour.

A key feature is the sleek, custom-built pergola with a glass roof, offering a sheltered area for outdoor dining or relaxing. This architectural addition blurs the lines between indoor and outdoor living, perfectly matching the style of the home’s large glass doors and contemporary finish.

Front Garden

Facing north, the front garden has been carefully planned with shade-tolerant evergreen planting for structure and all-season interest. The design enhances the property's street presence while maintaining a clean, minimalist look that complements the house’s modern aesthetic.

This garden is a showcase of refined landscaping, smart spatial planning, and tailored plant choices—crafted to elevate the home and enhance the way the space is enjoyed, all year round.

At the heart of the design is a crisp, pale stone terrace that steps gracefully down to a sunken seating area. Surrounded by soft planting and raised beds, this zone invites relaxation and connection with nature. Carefully integrated lighting within the stonework brings the garden to life after dark, enhancing both atmosphere and usability.

Privacy and structure are achieved with a striking row of pleached trees, positioned along new timber fencing to create a lush, green backdrop. Textured planting—featuring lavender, topiary, ornamental grasses, and Astrantia—adds movement and seasonal interest, softening the hard landscaping with vibrant colour and form.

Elsewhere, rich green lawns and thoughtfully placed evergreens frame the space, leading the eye across the garden and back toward the clean lines of the house. This garden is not just a landscape—it’s an extension of the home, designed for modern outdoor living.

The Harrogate garden is situated in the Duchy Estate, its a beautiful traditional stone house with a front garden south oriented and a north- west oriented garden at the back.

We wanted to create a space that could be enjoyed with family and friends.
